Perhaps the excuse that you were too busy might pass if you didn't arrive to go shopping or visit relatives, but one driver from the Louisiana state offered the police just that excuse to justify not renewing his car for 23 years.
Specifically, a traffic police officer from the Slidel Police Department stopped a man with license plates that had not been restored since 1997.
When asked by the police officer why he had not done so long, the man replied:
- Sorry, I've been too busy lately and completely forgot to renew my registration. I will see to it as soon as I get home, the police department said, CNN reports.
It is widespread among American drivers to purchase a new vehicle when they purchase a new vehicle (if they have one) to avoid paying registration, Global News reports. The case of this long-expired registration so much amused police officers from the Slidel department that they also posted a comment on the police's official Facebook page. The police have humorously commented on this unusual case with the words:
- For those of you who like to "replace the tables", at least make it a challenge for us instead of using the 20 year olds that expired in 1997.
Otherwise, Louisiana drivers are required to renew their vehicle registration every two years.
